Rachael Kilgour's songwriting often comes out of "intense emotion and sometimes, injustice." "Dad Worked Hard" was inspired by both, and was created for her hardworking father. Recent grand prize winner of the NewSong Music Competition Rachael Kilgour (Minneapolis, Minnesota-2015) is a Minnesota–based songwriter and performing artist whose sincere, lyric-driven work has been called both brave and humane. In addition to taking top honors of the NewSong Competition, she is also the 2017 winner of the legendary Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Contest. Kilgour has also been featured at NYC’s Lincoln Center and at the Sundance Film Festival's ASCAP Music Café.
